Leptospirosis is an acute generalized infectious disease, characterized by extensive vasculitis and of systemic and protean clinical manifestations caused by spirochetes of the genus Leptospira.
The clinical forms of this disease in Korea are known as asymptomatic form, influenza like form, pulmonary form, hepatic form, renal failure form, Weil's disease and rash form.
We have recently experienced an interesting case with leptospirosis accompanied by typical aseptic meningitis without any pulmonary or hepatic manifestations.
The patient was a 38 year-old male farmer who had had fever, headache and myalgia with seven days duration.
On admission, progressive mental confusion and frequently generalized seiqure developed. The manifestations of nonoliguric acute renal failure was also observed during the initial hospital days.
The above symptoms were much improved three days following the medical conservative treatment.
Serologic test was performed by both macor and microscopic agglutination test which was compatible with Leptospirosis according to the WHO criteria.
