Herpes Simplex Infection Following Ear Piercing

We report a case of herpes simplex infection on the right ear lobe in a 23-year-old female.
There was a history of ear piercing one week previous to appearance of the skin lesion.
The lower most part of right ear lobe showed confluent up to match head sized vesicles with brownish crusts on the red edematous base.
Culture for herpes simplex and Tzanck smear from vesicles were positives.
She had no past history of the similiar skin lesion on any part of the body and her family members as far as she understood.
The patients was treated with systemic antiviral agents and antibiotics.
The skin lesion subsided in two weeks leaving brownish patches but recurred on the same site further three months later.
