Vol.22 Num.4 (p187~189)
In Korea, hospital infection control has not been a wholistic approach and very poor in cost effectiveness. The main reason of this inactive development is lack of personnel who concerns only hospital infection control. In USA and European countries, nurses take charge of the roles as clinical specialists.
The main roles of ICN (Infection Control Nurse) or ICP (Infection Control Practitioner) are as follows;
1) To find out the national policy in hospital infection control and to clear the objectives of infection control of the hospital.
2) To assess the status of infection control of all departments of the hospital.
3) To set the practical plans and do the infection control practices that is hospital infection surveillance and developing better infection control practices.
4) To facilitate the guidelines of infection control.
5) To educate the hospital staff about infection control
To conduct the role, it needs special educational program for ICN. As there has not existed an effective educational program in Korea, it is urgent to set up a comprehensive program for them.
