To determine an antibody titer for the diagnosis of tsutsugamushi disease in Korea, the sera, which were collected from 8 patients confirmed as tsutsugamushi disease at intervals of 2 or 6 months for 2 or 3 years, were tested by indirect immunofluorescent antibody test. In all patients the antibody titers rose to 1:320~1280 by 10~20 days after onset. And then the titers declined to a mean of 1:80 by four months and to 1:10~20 by 1 year. After maintaining the titers of 1:10~20 up to 20 months, the antibodies were not detected after 2 years. Considering its occurrence only in autumn, tsutsugamushi disease in Korea could be diagnosed from an immunofluorescent antibody titer of at least 1:40.
