The present study was carried out to investigate the mechanism of inflammatory reaction of the acne lesions by accessing the chemotactic activity of the peripheral neutophils in the 27 acne patients to the cytosol antigens of propionbacterium acnes (P. acnes).
The cytosol antigen was prepared from P. acnes by passing 3 times through a French Pressure Cell Press at 18,000 p.s.i and differential centrifugation. The antigen was diluted and adjusted to the concentration of 40μg protein/mL. The chemotactic activity was evaluated by modified microfilter method with blind well chamber of Boyden and was analyzed in the respects to the kinds and the numbers of the acne lesions.
The resfults were summarized as follows;
1) The chemotactic activity of the peripheral neutrophils was markedly increasd in the patient group with inflammatory lesions as compared to the group with noninflammatory lesions.
2) The chemotactic activity of the peripheral neutrophils was not related to the numbers of the acne lesions of the patients.
