Clinical Evaluation of Cefodizime in Lower Respiratory Tract Infections

Cefodizime is a new third generation cephalosporin antibiotic which has broad antibacterial activity against gram positive, gram negative bacteria, Hemophilus spp. and Neisseria spp.
Clinical usefulness of cefodizime was studied in 30 cases of lower respiratiory tract infections. The drug was administered intravenously in daily dose of 2.0 g.
The results were as follows:
1) Cefodizime was clinically effective in 25 cases of all patients treated with efficacy rate of 83.3%.
2) Any significant side effects were not noted except mild elevation of liver enzymes (5 cases) and decrement of hemoglobin (1 case).
