Emphysematous pyelonephritis is uncommon, life-threatening suppurative infection of the renal parenchyma and perirenal tissues characterized by the production of gas. We experienced a case of emphysematous pyelonephritis with massive perirenal gas collection caused by Yersinia enterocolitica in a 59 years old man with diabetes mellitus. The patient was successfully managed with nephrectomy, antibiotics, and control of diabetes.
We reported this case with a review of literatures.
